As Vice President of Development, Matthew Hourigan plays a central role in advancing Hourigan’s real estate development and investment initiatives. He is closely involved in evaluating opportunities, shaping development strategy, and guiding projects from early concept through execution, with a focus on long-term value for all stakeholders.

Matthew brings a construction-informed perspective to development, integrating development strategy with constructability and financial rigor to ensure projects are thoughtfully conceived and well-positioned for success. His experience across industrial and multifamily projects—including both speculative and build-to-suit work—allows him to bridge planning, analysis, and on-the-ground execution throughout the development lifecycle.

In addition to leading individual projects, Matthew contributes to the continued evolution of Hourigan’s development platform by strengthening coordination between development and construction teams. His work supports disciplined decision-making, consistent execution, and alignment with the firm’s vision—helping deliver projects that create lasting value for clients, partners, and the communities Hourigan serves.

Matthew graduated with honors from Virginia Tech in 2017, earning dual degrees in Building Construction and Real Estate. He remains engaged with the university as a member of the Industry Advisory Board for the Blackwood Department of Real Estate and is an alumnus of ChamberRVA’s Mentor Richmond program.

A Richmond native, Matthew enjoys spending time with his wife, Summer, and friends. Outside of work, he can often be found on the golf course, by the water, or exploring Richmond’s restaurant scene.
