The Bon Secours Washington Redskins Training Center was built with “multipurpose” in mind. The facility is truly unique to any other NFL training camp due to the spectators’ close proximity to the fields and the flexibility of the different areas of the building.
The following outlines how it will be used throughout the year and the unique features of the facility.
The first floor will contribute to the functionality of the facility by focusing on three main areas: medical, educational and physical fitness.
Medical – Bon Secours Health Systems will operate year round and provide sports medicine rehabilitation and men’s health services. There will be primary care offices for physicians and areas for physical therapy and training provided on the first floor.
Educational – The facility will have educational and outreach areas for Bon Secours. It will offer programs for men and children to educate them on health and fitness through multiple programs scheduled through the year.
Physical Fitness – A fitness workout room and locker rooms will be provided on this floor. The fitness room has been designed to have a lot of glass to look out onto the practice fields and provide light for the area. Hangar doors have been installed to open vertically and provide direct and easy access to the practice fields for the players.
The locker room, a core feature contributing to the functionality of the facility, will have a total of 92 lockers. Each locker has a safe to protect valuables and electrical outlets for charging phones and other devices. The foot locker, or the bench you can sit on, lifts up to store sneakers, pads and other gear, and is ventilated to remove odor.
When the Redskins are not using the facility, the locker room can be configured into separate rooms by pocket doors and folding partitions, allowing the space to be used by other organizations throughout the year. The room can be configured into 2 men’s rooms and 1 women’s room or 1 men’s and 1 women’s depending on who is using the space.
Another unique feature of the facility is the close proximity of the spectator viewing areas to the practice fields. Most NFL training center viewing areas are far away from the fields making the players hard to see. Fans at the Bon Secours Washington Redskins Training Center can be right at field level allowing an up close view of the players and the practices.
The facility’s second floor will be leased throughout the year for commercial use. The space is ideal for offices or restaurants and has large glass windows providing a bird’s eye view of the fields.
The Economic Development Authority with the City of Richmond will be deciding on how the space will be leased throughout the year, but nevertheless the facility can be used for many different functions and will play an integral role in the revitalization of Richmond’s North Boulevard and Broad Street Corridors.Previous Post Next Post
