CBS 19 NEWS- September 19, 2022

“This Wednesday is a community-wide day of service organized by the United Way of Greater Charlottesville. This is the 31st year of the United Way Laurence E. Richardson Day of Caring. According to a release, this year’s event has been supported by the University of Virginia, Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital, Hourigan, Woodard Properties, WINA 1070AM, and other donors.  Across the country, the United Way Day of Caring is one of the largest volunteer events, aiming to make it easier for people to volunteer as a group or as an individual. Groups can get involved by forming a Day of Caring volunteer team that will then be able to help an area nonprofit or school. These groups can help with various needs, such as designing websites, clearing trails, painting, planting a garden, home improvements and more. This year, 1,600 volunteers will be completing 150 service projects at 96 organizations. The estimated value of all this work is more than $244,000, not counting the donated materials and supplies.”
