THE VIRGINIAN-PILOT – June 18, 2022

“A 13-story Hyatt Place hotel opened this week at the Oceanfront and replaces one of the city’s original motor lodges.

Matthew Krogsund, general manager, described the new hotel as the “spiritual successor” of the beloved Belvedere Beach Resort, which operated on the same corner of 36th Street and Atlantic Avenue for 50 years.

The Belvedere was torn down in 2020 when Virginia Beach-based Suburban Capital bought the property. The company, owned by Chris Perry and Tim Stiffler, invested $28 million in the Hyatt Place Virginia Beach/Oceanfront, Krogsund said.

It’s much sleeker than its predecessor.”

The Hyatt is a beautiful hotel! It has 140 rooms, all of which have ocean views expect 27 of them. The lobby has a café and cocktail bar that has local beers on tap!
